BOOK LOVERS: Don’t miss this talk!
November 3 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Join us for a special book talk and signing with Dr. David Farmer author of the new biography, Jack D. Rittenhouse: A Literary Life. Rittenhouse was a pioneering twentieth-century writer, printer, publisher, Western historian, antiquarian bookman, advertising executive, and chronicler of the golden age of Route 66. He helped establish and elevate printing arts, writing, editing, and publishing in the emerging field of Western history. In 1946 he launched his own award-winning publishing venture, Stagecoach Press, with A Guide Book to Highway 66, the first of its genre, and soon became known as an authority on The Main Street of America and a noted publisher. No book lover will want to miss the chance to learn more about this remarkable kindred spirit.
Dr. David Farmer, retired Director of DeGolyer Library at SMU, was raised on his family’s ranch near Ft. McKavett in the Texas Hill Country and later earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Trinity University and his doctorate from University of Texas at Austin where he also taught and began his career in the administration of rare book libraries. His latest book, Jack Rittenhouse, A Western Literary Life, was recently published by UNM Press. His earlier work includes the biographies, Stanley Marcus: A Life With Books, and Willard Clark: Printer & Printmaker.
