Saving a Great Neighborhood: Oakhurst and its History, Architecture, and Sense of Place

May 1, 2021 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

Start National Preservation Month off right! Preservation consultant Libby Willis is joining us to discuss her experience saving her own neighborhood. Oakhurst, a 1920s-era development located on the northeast side of Fort Worth, is now a National Register Historic District with an active association of residents. Willis will explain the steps required to become a historic district and the art of maintaining the integrity of the neighborhood and its landscapes after designation. This is a great opportunity to learn from someone who has spent decades in the trenches working to preserve Fort Worth history. Don’t miss it!

Libby Willis is a historic preservation consultant, author and Fort Worth community leader.  She was the first Texas area administrator for the National Trust for Historic Preservation regional office and the first executive director of Preservation Texas. In addition to her current civic involvement with Fort Worth ISD, she is a past president of the Fort Worth League of Neighborhood Associations and the Oakhurst Neighborhood Association. Willis is the author of Fort Worth’s Oakhurst Neighborhood (2014).
